SUSTAINABILITY
REPS is committed to being a more sustainable and environmentally-aware school. Like so many other like-minded schools, the challenges of prolonged lockdowns and absence from school over the past two years have been significant, and have impacted our abilities to follow through with some of our intended sustainability initiatives. Now, in 2022, we really are excited about a year of uninterrupted commitment to being a more sustainable school. In 2022 we have a renewed focus is on reducing our waste production, and better managing the waste we do produce. We have a motivated and determined Sustainability Committee, consisting of families, teachers and members of the broader school community, who are constantly seeking to consolidate best sustainable practices and introduce new sustainable initiatives.
What we have achieved so far:
Four fully functioning worm farm for food scraps
Compost bins for all remaining food scraps (i.e. bread crusts, meat and citrus. This means none of the food waste that is produced at school is sent to landfill)
Wicking garden beds for the compost and worm tea to fertilise
Going paperless with our bi-weekly newsletters
Soft plastic recycling
Winner of a Coles Sustainability4Schools Buddy Bench for our soft plastics initiative and collecting
Mrs Mac explaining how we will now manage our food scraps at school.
